6.COMBAT
There are TWO typing errors in the combat table:
An Elite defending in mountain against a Knight hits with a 8-10 (NOT 9-10)
A Knight defending in mountain against a Cavalry hits with a 5-10 (NOT 7-10).
6.6 RETREATS7. POPULATION LIMIT
(clarification) Units at sea count against the population limit. (Possible with naval supremacy).
9.5. SUBDUE
Q. Is it correct that subjugation generally follows the Britannia pattern except as stated in the rules and errata?
A. NO! You submit after one round of combat, which is mandatory. After this you can/may submit if there are still combat units of both sides in the combat area. If one force (all units of one side) is destroyed you can not submit. BUT if you had attacked the some nation in a different area you get a second chance. Some procedure: one round of combat after this: submit!
The following nations may subdue: ROME; VISIGOTHS; OMEYYAD AND CARTHAGE.
11.7 AUCTION OFF
(erratum) The term "NPC" was meant to be "NAVP".
ORDER OF PLAY CARDS
(omission) Hispano-Romans is missing from the list – the
nation should appear immediately after Rome.
Turn Record Track:
Vandals start in turn 6 with 15 Infantry (NOT 13)
The Francs may collect income from Turn 10 on. Remove: "Turn 11:
Franks collect income."
The Lusitaniens convert at the end of Turn 12.
Turn 11: If Lusitanien submits to the Omeyyad, Lusitanien is transformed to Badajoz immediately during the Omeyyad turn. Badajoz gets 3 Castles, min. 6 Infantry and the areas: Badajoz, Alcantara + Porto.
Turn 12 (End): Lusitanien is transformed to Badajoz (if not during turn 11/12). Badajoz gets 3 Castles, min. 6 Infantry and the areas: Badajoz, Alcantara + Porto.
ALAIN
(clarification) The Alain enter the game on turn 6, but do not begin to collect income until turn 8. The Turn Record Chart could make this clearer.
ALMOHADES
The Almohade have no castles. They get Victory Points from ruins!
ARAGON
Q. On the Aragon victory points card, in the "Always in own turn" section, it states "3 points per moslemic Castle". Then in the Turn 16 section it states "One point for each moslemic unit, 3 points for each Castle." Two questions about this:
a. Does the rule intend then that each Moslemic castle is, on Turn 16, worth 6 victory points?
b. On Turn 16, are the 3 points for each castle meant to apply to all castles and not merely Moslemic ones?
a. No, a Moslemic castle is only worth 3 victory points, regardless of when taken.
b. The rule only applies to Moslemic castles.
BADAJOZ
Q. If the LUSITANIEN submit to the OMEYYAD, will the BADAJOZ get a turn on the same Game Turn even though the LUSITANIEN already had theirs?
A. YES
CASTILLE
Castille receives TWO Victory Points for Avila in turn 15 NOT one point.
EL CID
Q. At what point in other players' turns does El Cid get hired and attack?
A. It happens during each hiring nation's income phase, but before that nation builds new units. (This does two things: it lets someone spend more than 8 gold on his services, and it lets the hiring player move normally into the space that El Cid captured for him, without changing the fact that movement goes before combat.)
HISPANO-ROMANS
Q. When does the Hispano-Roman begin to collect income?
A. Turn 7. (The Hispano-Romans get income from Turn 7 on.
The Turn Record Chart says Turn 7, the card says Turn 6, Turn 7 is
correct.)
Q. Everyone agrees that the Hispano-Roman player receives victory
points for destroying the Vandal leader on turn 7. However, it
is possible that the Vandal leader could still be on the board
on turn 8 (it is removed at the start of the Vandal turn)
and as the Hispano-Romans go before the Vandals, they could
destroy the Vandal leader at that time. Should this count for
victory points?
A. Only on Turn 7.
LUSITANIEN
Turn 11: If Lusitanien submits to the Omeyyad, Lusitanien is transformed to Badajoz immediately during the Omeyyad turn. Badajoz gets 3 Castles, min. 6 Infantry and the areas: Badajoz, Alcantara + Porto.
Turn 12 (End): Lusitanien is transformed to Badajoz (if not during turn 11/12). Badajoz gets 3 Castles, min. 6 Infantry and the areas: Badajoz, Alcantara + Porto.
(Clarification): Turn 12: the Omeyyad increase to 13 Infantry and 3 Cavalry BEFORE building.
VANDALS
Q. How many Infantry do the Vandals receive?
A. 15. Vandals start with 15 Infantry on Turn 6
Q. The wording for the Vandal first move is confusing, please clarify:
A. First, the Vandals move up to 3 spaces, all together as a single stack, ignoring stacking limits, starvation, and the overrun rule. Each army they pass over (in the three spaces) gets one roll against them, but the Vandals don't get to hit back. THEN, a double turn (Major Invasion) begins.
Typically the special move goes to one of the mountain spaces that separate NE Spain (where the Vandals move on) from south-central Spain (where they want to go). Otherwise they would have to waste the first impulse of their double turn getting that far.
Q. During what turns may Vandals exit to Africa?
A. Turns 7 to 9: 1 point per unit that reaches Afrique.
VISIGOTHS
(clarification) The areas forbidden for free castles in turn 8 are Pamplune, Huesca and Barcelona AND of course you may not build castles in mountain areas.
(clarification) If Toledo falls during the first combat phase of the major invasion the Visigoth castles surrender in the second combat phase of the major invasion.
(clarification) The Visigoths castles surrender when there is no Visigoth infantry in the AREA. It is not necessary that there is no infantry on the map. Infantry in other areas do not count.
(clarification) If Visigoths never conquer Toledo their castles surrender to the Omeyyads.
